Not if the gears are built the same.

A smaller ring ring gear will sit too far away from the pinion gear. It's too small and will not mesh.

They probally offset the gear teeth over further when they machine the optional gear ratios so that they mesh properly with only shim adjustments.

You just have to change the gears shape so that it holds its mesh closer.

In real cars you have to change the ring and pinion gear to change axel ratios. You can only shim the pinion so far, and they don't have as much room for funky ring gear desighns like we do.

I've got a 41 tooth gear on the way for my 809's active diff. (eta: fri or sat) I'll see what they changed to make it fit.
