On the yokomo i was able to change shafts in seconds. Having a bit of difficulty seeing if I can do this or if there is a way to remove the shaft without opening anything up.

Also, are Tamiya shocks the same as HPi shocks? Are they 50mm or 55mm?
You will have to remove the shock plate (as I call it) and just remove the four screws from the bottom holding the diff cases to the chassis. That will remove it out of the way quicker than pulling the top plate.
