I've never stripped the hole by screwing the set screw in but I have stripped it in a crash. What you need to do is put a 6mm set screw in the hole you are not using. This will prevent damaging the open hole. Now if you like bullet proofing your car you can use the Team Tamale aluminum rear hubs like I did. I think the plastic is very durable and this is an issue I've seen on many TC's.

You can helisink the hubs to make a more secure connection or ca the setscrew in the hub. I have a car with using each method and they both work well.
