Thats not a bad deal I would say. Not a great one, but not a bad one either.

I just snagged an 8 2.0 RTR minus the DX3S for $250, the buggy was nearly new and had only a few small scratches on the bottom of the chassis, the motor has so much pinch you can barely turn it over by hand. I got lucky! And I couldn't be happier.

But as a rookie to racing, the difference between the 1.0 and 2.0 will not matter so much, getting to know how the buggy drives and learning how to drive it fast is what will make the difference. If you like your buggy and are having fun running it, then you WIN! You dont have to have the latest and greatest to be competitive and have tons of fun at the Sport/Local Level.
