I use a 12V Gell cell and love it. I have banana plugs on the side on the starter box to hook up the battery charger when I need to charge the Receiver Pack, Glug Ingiter or radio batterys. No need for a power supply or power when I go racing. When not in use at home the starter box is kept plugged into a battery tender, ready to go the next time. I don't see weight being an issue (over a lipo pack). I don't race my starter box. It sits in the pits.
