Your friend needs to shim the rear diff properly. Once the diff is shimmed properly, the Kyosho diffs are virtually bullet proof. Add a shim so than the diff feels smooth and not notchy.
Also keep an eye on the bulkheads. If they get to sloppy or flexed they can also cause you issues
i have ran my St-RR's for2+ years and dont have any diff issues, and ask anyone, i dont do much maintanance either...LOL
when it breaks I fix it, thats about it, tighten my screws and go race
