I run both and really do not prefer one over the other. I do however love the sound of a nitro ripping down the straight. As far as maintaining goes only thing not on my electric buggy is a clutchbell, clutch shoes and brake pads. There are still plenty of things to maintain diffs, bearings, shocks, bushings and cleaning.
So, I would not say electric is less maintenance.
They both will survive
