i use plumers epoxy, i started with that and have never changed.

i let the wheel stop at heavest point at bottom
use xacto blade to rough up the area ware i'm putting the epoxy
add or subtract epoxy to get it to stop at the 9 or 3 o'clock position
then add at new lite spot. (generally, it takes very little)
over time you will get a gut feeling of how much to use.
