taking a guess. but it sounds like a position sensing shock. it
has a outer shock body and a inner shock body with a hole near the top of the inner body, then another hole about 3/4 the way down. when the piston is between these to holes some fluid will bypass the piston through the bottom hole flowing above the piston to the top, when the piston is below the bottom hole full dampining is in place.
