We never had problems with the duraluminum spool in 10.5 or higher motor classes. On rubber it was ok in mod too, but if you have a bad crash it can break or bend like any other part so keep it on the black stuff
Remember using a spool does wear out the front drive parts more then a diff. or one-way, so you need to make sure all parts are lubed and checked regularly.

Hey i had no luck with the metal spool either it would snap on me where it has been lightened without even hitting anything.
