I always have a can of non-chlorinated brake cleaner handy for NON_PLASTIC parts. I use it to blast out the head before I put a glow plug in, or any time I rip into the engine. And I use it for bearings. It is not for cleaning the whole vehicle. Like others have said, simple green followed by WD-40 followed by the air hose is the ONE of best general maintance clearners around. But a can of brake cleaner is handy to have and cheaper than nitro blast. They do make a parts cleaner that is safe for electronics.
