I'm planning on cutting off the alligator clips and installing a cigarette lighter adapter so I can plug it into the power outlets in my SUV. So far I've only used it on AC power.
What I did was cut the DC leads at about 2 inches from the charger and installed a connector. This way I can keep the leads at home unless I'm heading somewhere with out AC power.
You could do the same so you could switch between the leads and the cig lighter.
