Thats interesting, even with my original chassis (car from the first batch) I need to grind down that pivot block to get more than a 51t pinion and the original orion, the novak fit a 52 I think. I did replace that chassis, I'll check the spacing, I wonder if you might have gotten one that was just out of spec.
I had to to some grinding too when I use my Losi or Hacker motor but with the Trinity motor there was more than enough space because the Trinity motor have the cutout in the rear of the motor.
