Default Carpet on an offroad track

We've all seen the euro tracks, and many lay carpet on the jumps and bumps. Has anyone in the US used this on their tracks. We are in the process of rebuilding our offroad track and have been toying with the rug idea. It would appear to keep the jumps and climbs from rutting.
Input need. What type of carpet? thickness? life expectancy?
