That's pretty much standard operating procedure, across the board in r/c. Some companies do it more... but even the ones that do sell a full-option rides always have something else that's a "hop-up". Carbon fiber has never been a common 1/8 feature... and not all racers want it. I like CF too... but I don't expect it to be oem.
If the OCM comes better equipped, that's cool... I haven't looked at it that close. Some cars are going to be a better "deal" than others, and not everyone agrees or there wouldn't be 40 brands to choose from. I just don't see why you want to dog this car? It's not a bad price for what you get.
