I have owned a tmaxx in my past before I bought my first savage. From 1 to 10, i would say a tmaxx is a 4, were a savage is like a 8.5. Savage is a great monster truck, a lot of options, and like spacecase25 said vert easy to clean and work on.
I would not pay more then $270 for a used tmaxx, and $350 for a savage. If you see savages going over $300 is has to be all the hop-ups.
