Me thinks the explanation given is not clear enough, not to me anyway.
But I have 64pitch, 48pitch and 0.4 pitch. The 48 is much courser, and not like the picture in the tower link at all.
Check out the attached file I have taken a picture of 3 types or pinions:
31tooth, 64pitch pinion the gold coloured one at the top
34tooth, 0.4pitch pinion the silver one on the right
31tooth, 48pitch pinion the silver one on the left
