however i have purchased a spur gear adaptor which is on the way (maybe if this will help at all i must say i really dont know now ....)

The 540 class besides having a very good motor is all about smooth driving and corner speed. Try using a front one-way diff and take out the drag brake on your radio. You also want your final drive around 4.70 to 4.50. Also batteries you need some real good batteries to be competitive in this class.
