I've been using RPM ballcups to help reduce slack the steering links. You have to cut about an 1/8" off the length and clearance around ballcup so they don't rub anything. Cut them down to the same length from ball center to the end of the cup as a stock associated ballcup and you should be ok as far as maintaining the same thread engagment.
