It all depends on the make up of the carbon. You can't look purely at thickness. The HB cyclone has i think 2.5 as std, but it is softer than the 2.0mm chassis that i have on my cars. Same with Tamiya, their carbon is soft. The make up of our carbon natually makes it stiff.
You are exactly right. For example we have checked an Xray FK04 3.9mm chassis against our 2.5mm graphite and they are VERY close in torsional and longitudinal flex.
Schumacher pays a lot for its graphite. We could get stuff that costs as much as half what we are paying now but the cars performance would suffer. Our carbon is the best in the industry.
