What do you need to know about speedcontrollers? Basically, a motor is rated by its turns. A stock motor is 27turns. Modified motors go down to what -5 or 6 turn? I'm not sure since I don't race.
The lower the turn, the faster the motor, the better esc you will need. Speed controllers are also rated up to what turn motor they can handle. If you are only running a stock 27T motor, then there is no need for you to get an expensive ESC like a Novak GTX which can handle any motor. Another thing, not all motors have reverse and racing ESCs never have reverse. Sorry, I did the best I could to explain what little knowledge I have about ESCs.
