Under gearing a motor will make it run as hot as overgearing it. So you may go up to the gear they are running and see what happens. If your running a motor I sent with the leading and trailing edges flattend out then you may go one tooth more than everyone else. This takes away amp draw, RPM and heat. But adds power and torque which allows you to gear up.
