I think for endurance races like rally, I would want more acceleration and a cool motor. Negative timing would produce an abundance of torque and run cooler. Then gear appropriately for desired top speed. Turbo is also great to help with top speed and producing roost
Just use it judiciously. It's always a balance top speed / power and heat. I've found a longer turbo delay helps keep you honest.
