I hear where you guys are coming from but I actually think its not a bad idea. Most of the ST tires are already probably stiff enough and they all balloon like crazy with the speeds they spin at so I could see it providing pretty good traction on certain surfaces. Heck I have seen where they tape the inserts to keep the ballooning to a minimum so why not just get rid of it alltogether? Also your lightening the wheel which will obviously help acceleration. A lighter wheel is a faster wheel. Gonna try it out!
Ahh, maybe there is a reason alot of the ST tires don't come with inserts! :-)
We have of course tested with closed cell, open cell and no inserts to compare them all on the surface we run on.
And the combination of closed cell front and no insert rear gave the best overall performance for our tire setup and surface.
Not saying this is the solution for all tire setups and surfaces though.......but it's certainly worth a try
