One option that never came up perhaps because it's stupid. Leave tire/motor open and revert back to Nimh cells. Most cars still work with them. You get a voltage boost and you are back to a limited battery capacity with no worries of a fire when the battery dumps hard. It all comes back to technology advances removed the limits of mod racing, so put one technology limit back into the ring. I'll shut up now.
