It's supposed interfere less with chassis flex. And I think it's easier and nicer to operate. Although I have modified it a little and will continue to do so, in order to get rid of the tape and use velcro instead.
On my 2014, I tried the Spec-R battery holder. Didn't fit perfectly, but could be made to work. I much prefer what I now have over that.
