myself I do recommend a 0.5 mm starting point for idle gap.......after tuning hundreds of engines for people I have come to notice that idle gap is the #1 cause of tuning issues and its always the same deal, huge idle gap causing symptoms that seem like a air leak LOL ( how many thousands of engines have been sealed with silicone needlessly LOL ) so by recommending a 0.5 mm gap we have a closer to proper starting point work from.....especially so when tuning a short needle carb
