A 17.5 is probably going to be slower than a mini 8ight depending on the battery is in the 8ight. 8ights are so light that on 3s they are faster than a lot of cars.

There are a few solutions to make the b5m faster:
Endbell timing (Stock legal)
ESC timing (Not stock legal)
Get a lower wind motor
Higher pinion/lower spur gear (Although you aren't going to want to go to far from where you are now)

Make sure you watch motor temperatures when increasing timing and changing gearing.
