I would agree with JayL and the instructions. Higher bite asphalt and carpet, the transverse in my experience has been faster. Steering is much more direct in feeling and aggressive. In low bite, inline has proved to be faster. Lets say on a parking lot type track that may be a little on the dusty side. I like the option to run either/Or while most other cars don't give you the option.

I ran my battery inline and then added and removed weight on the sides where the battery would be if I ran it sideways, much prefer the added weight so will be swapping mine to sideways. It even did the chicanes better.
This is on mid to high grip asphalt.
