15 years ago, definitely you needed/wanted one. Today's servos are so good and durable, that I just don't see the need.
The alloy racks, and the servo horns are suspect though on the T5M - I've even seen a stock plastic rack get broken. Remember this - you strengthen 1 part, then the other parts have the load transferred to them. Eventually this will affect the servo - Alloy rack, alloy bell cranks, alloy servo horn, and I'd bet you'll see broken steering blocks and broken servos.
