I came from running 4x4 SCT & Ebuggy and this is my first 1/10 4w Buggy. The 7.5 felt perfect to get used to and it still had the power for 1/8 sized tracks. It kept me out of trouble learning and plenty of power to gear up as well.
Another choice would be an 8.5 and depending on the ESC you could add boost or timing to it. There are a few guys at our track running the Trackstar 120A ESC and motor combo and have added boost to it and the car does quite well.
6.5 with radio set at 75%. Still lots of power on tap for the big boy tracks
