I don't think there's anything natural feeling about a 4 gear setup. In fact I find the opposite true. 3 gear is so much more neutral. 4 gear is a compromise solution to a problem that wasn't properly identified at the time. That compromise has become the standard.
Mid
3 gear is more neutral in Mid Motor.
4 gear has more weight transfer and std in most mid motor cars.
Rear
3 gear has more weight transfer in rear motor which is the standard in most RM cars.
4 gear is more neutral in Rear Motor. If you don't flip the motor to the proper side in RM4 and have to reverse the motor direction via ESC, its not the same thing - the inertia is different.
