Did the grip go up during the start of the Mains? Perhaps you have too much chassis flex or your rear oil is too soft when traction goes up causing excessive roll or flex making it a bit more of a handful. As grip goes up, you need to stay ahead of the the track and make necessary changes so you don't get caught off guard. I always find I need to stiffen the car during the course of the day or adjust the chassis flex as more rubber is layed down on the carpet.
Grip normally increases throughout a race day and I have that covered. The rear was way loose in the main and still not sure why as I was dialed in all three qualifiers. Once I was back home, I found that one of my tires had come partially unglued and perhaps that caused my odd handling. Still not sure.
