We usually get 2-4 new drivers per year at our club. we run a separate "beginner" class for them, where they all race together (touring, USGT, mini, etc ...all run together). This gives new drivers the ability to practice in an actual racing condition and no one gets upset w/ their lack of control of the car. New passionate drivers who stick with it usually move out of novice class and up to expert once they are able to handle their car.
Run what you brung beginner classes are a good idea. New guys are just trying to figure out how to make it around a track, regardless of what they own. As for everything else we already have two (newer-driver friendly) classes that have been mentioned over and over. Making new classes is only a dilution of what exists... you're splitting minor differences between 3 classes that are already well established.
