The EOS rear mounted shock mod looks interesting. Perhaps Fred is right and this is how they are correcting for the "tilt" caused when using rear mounted shocks. I've also noticed that when using front mounted shocks in mid motor you can only use the top two mounting locations because of the motor plate.
