i think i remember why i didn't put those small shims there at the beginning:
when i put the rear input shaft together. i look at the instruction and put in the larger shims and then bearing , then put that spring pin in, then put the small shims and then the big purple metal spur gear holder.. and doh! the small shims blocked the way.. so i try to do it again without the shims.. and it works.. then i forgot to put the shims back in.
