I don't think anyone cares about smaller spurs and weight being 2mm (or whatever) further back. The blinky motor mount is primarily designed to allow for gearing impossible to achieve in the normal position. This would be the main reason. Keep in mind in classes like 21.5 blinky people run unbelievably small ratios such as 3 or thereabouts. In most cars these are not possible without some creative liberties (microscopic spurs/intergalactic pinions that didn't even exist before 21.5 and blinky came about).
