My dad's an artist and he uses an air tank with a regulator when airbrushing. It's really quiet and pretty cheap compared to buying a good compressor. You can buy/rent tanks at industrial supply houses and get them filled there or at a paintball shop. Refills are like $7 - $12 and last a long time.
