Default gear diff

...for those who have built the gear diff with steel gears.... with the outdrives shimmed so that the cross pins just slide into the holes but do not bind the outdrive (cross pin snug against the large diameter backing shim)... very little if any free play, and the backing shims on all four satellite gears... using the sealing gasket... the diff binds up when the screws are just snug. Leaving out the satellite gear shims is a little better but feels tight & really "notchy"... ditto leaving out one of the large diameter backing shims (which I know you would not want to do, but just to get some idea of how bound up it is). It's acting like it needs two gaskets to get enough clearance to run free. Any suggestions?
The gear diff is just to mess around with as I'll probably always run a ball diff but having never run one in a 2wd buggy I thought it'd be interesting. Assuming I can get it set up right.
