You were misinformed. Narrow blocks = gain in side bite compared to wide blocks. Distance the wheels are from the chassis has no effect on weight over the wheel.

Think of a long plank sitting on top of 2 paint cans. Now stand on the plank. You can move the cans the same distance from the centre anywhere under the plank and your weight on each can remains the same.

Moving the wheels forward or back would change the weight distribution, not moving them in or out.
