The 71/72 are asphalt spec. I have every tire PIT has ever made and these are like no other! my guess would be that they have more rubber content in them. I consider them to be mediums. harder than asphalt softs and slighter softer but wear better than the hards. Fronts are a bit trickier, i cant put my finger on them , they actually could be the same. I prefer 73 med's on the front anyway.
