Had to go a ways back to find my post but found that when I measured it was 9.5 center to center, still not 8.5 though, for some reason thought it was. With that 8.5 or 8 would produce a better ackerman split.
Please post some pics when you get it.
(On a side note, if the in out of the setting doesn't bother you're setup, I think one could just re-drill the original plate with a tighter spacing to see what it performs like
