Trial and Error is my method.
Shim it, put it together, test it.
Repeat until it's smooth. Sometimes i'd shave some plastic from the case, other times it was the tightness of the screws for the top of the case.
I've even had issues with the bearing cap in front of the spur.
All it takes is patience.
