I went to Hobbytown and the guy said its most likely the motor is bad. He said usually if you try to turn it, it should turn (without any power), and if you try to short 2, it should move a bit (?)

Yup. checked the throttle, made sure its not reversed or set too low. chrged the battery too That might be my only other thing, battery is about a year old and not run during that time.

Put in the new cable. had the battery charged. The wheels turn, the esc recognizes that the throttle is pressed (red light goes away), but no motor movement. blah

I should be getting the cable in mail today. So hopefully I'll know soon. Hope thats what it is, would be a cheap fix compared to a new motor :)

Good idea. Is it pretty much any sensor cable or specific to the ESC + motor ? As in do I have to find a speed passion sensor cable?

I have a HPI club racer with a the speed passion stock racer ultra sportsman 17.5r motor + esc combo. For some reason, my motor stopped working. no damage (barely used actually). it just doesnt turn....

Correct. this is a brushless. Not sure what pin you mean? There are obviously 3 wires going to the ESC, all connected correctly. There is a3 or 4 prong pin that goes to the ESC too.

for those of you with a stand up servo and lay down shocks, how / where did you put the receiver? In the laydown server, the receiver goes on top of the servo cover. Can't figure this one out :(
