Clean your battery and bars with an ink erasor and then alcohol. that will help the solder flow better. Also I would suggest a large chisel tip iron and no less than 750 deg as to speed up the solder...

Ok after it is tinned and you have taken the excess solder back off with your tissue use your clean wet sponge and the tip should be somewhat shiny although it may dull slightly if the heat is up...
