Ive been racing 3 of them pretty hard for over a year, with brushless power and 2s Lipo. I have done several upgrades slowly along the way, but only for luxury and not for the need.

How about a RC18? They are in your budget, and come with everything you need to run. They are durable, and parts are found anywhere. Upgrades can be bought a little at a time so you are not breaking...
