I'm not so sure that's a metallic color for the grey. It doesn't shimmer in the light unless he really fogged the lexan with translucent black as he faded it.

This particular one is all cut into liquid mask...took forever it seemed. Yeah, for sure. To me outlines make designs pop a little more. It would look killer around that skull.
