Best Battery for a 13t electric motor?
I just upgraded my 540 type johnson electric motor for a 13t x 2. When i hold the car in my hand and accelerate, i can turn the steering fine. But as soon as i put it down and accelerate on the road the steering wont respond nor will it respond when going forward and then pressing reverse, the car speeds up and evetually crashes. Im was thinking that it was most likely that the battery doesnt have enough power to run both the new motor and the servo.. Both batteries i have are at least 4 years old. one is a 7.2v 1200mah and the other a 7.2v 1400mah. But they seemed to work ok on the stock 540 type motor.
Do i need a 3000mah to 3700mah 7.2v battery to be able to run both the new motor and the servo? any other suggestions?

sound's to me like you need new batterie's and maybe a new esc (electronic speed control)..............i have a 1200 mah and 1400 mah stick pack's and they ran ok no problem's like you described though they just didn't have the run time needed for a full race.
they are probably too old and too low in the mah department.
go to your local hobby shop and get an around 2500mah (7.2v) stick pack made by venom. and ask about an economic speed control to handle that 13T x2 motor of your's if money is an issue...

540 or 13X2
Yeah you will need a new pack those 1200 won't be able to supply the amps the 13X2 desires. However, what type of Esc do you have? Be sure that it will support the 13t motor you just purchased. Generally Esc's are rated for the amount of turns they can accept. There are a few options if indeed you need a new Esc the novak GTS is pretty good and it will support motors down to 12t if I recall correctly. I think duratrax makes a couple not so expensive Esc's that will accept a 13t.

I still have the original tamiya r/c 4WD racing car speed controller set. Mechanical by the look of things. With a hi-tech hs-300 servo. Should this be ok or should i upgrade to an electrical speed controller?
still working on the gearing. At the moment has 21T gearing... would 17 or 16 t be better? what benefits would i get? I read some where that the lower the gearing the higher the torque but reduces top end speed and vice versa. Id still like to keep a good high end speed andbe quik off the mark. Any suggestions on gearing people have tried. Im running a tamiya TA-02 chassis.

You're awfully brave to run a MSC with such a low turn motor. Yeah, you will need to upgrade because that's way too much stress for it. If you need something that will do the trick for cheap, the Duratrax Streak can accept as low as a 12T and suppy enough amps to the servo. You may also try looking for a used LRP Quantum or Novak GTS/GTX as someone suggested earlier.

Thanks for that info on the MSC, il definately be upgrading to a Esc this week. Anyone got any ideas for the pinion gearing or will 21t be ok for now?
