Default Help with getting started

I haven't had an RC car since the Tamiya Bigwig back in the 80s ( I was like 9)
Looking to get back into just recreational hobby, back yards, trails that type of thing. Would like to know what kind of cars are best suited battery or gas? pre built or do it yourself assembly? Not even sure battery life these days. Id need two complete kits same speed scale..

looking for maybe a buggy/4wd nice speed nothing super sonic...

Any help is appreciated..

Electric is easier to manage than nitro. Do you want to build it? Building a kit is a great experience but there are some great values with the RTR stuff. Last year, I had planned to buy a Tamiya Grasshopper for my son, who is 4. I opted on a Traxxas Slash 2wd as it's more durable and has parts support.

The battery lasts about 30 minutes for the brushed model. Less if you pin it all the time. Did you have a budget in mind?

Axial Yeti RTR and Yeti trail truck. All in the box, any surface you want. Fast or slow.

Default Traxxas bandit VXL

I was looking at the traxxas VXL buggy (one for me and my cousin)
We liked the way the looked (reminded us of our old cars back in the day hornet and bigwig) R2R seemed nice and was told they were upgradable part wise. any opnions? any recommended upgrades for these cars?

Also we saw a few batteries Lipo 5000 11.1 , 5800 7.4, 7600 7.4 and was not sure of the real differences.
