Default No 11.5t, 12.5t motors?

Was just curious about something. For my TLR 22T, an Atomik 13.5t motor was pretty dog slow. I dropped down a motor, to an Atomik 10.5t, and it's much faster, like 25-30% faster. Same gearing, timing, etc.

So it got me thinking -- you can get every turn from 6.5t -> 10.5t, but why do motor companies skip from 10.5 straight to 13.5? Same from 13.5 to 17.5?

Im no expert, but my guess is that the more you wrap the wires around the inside the motor you cant get a full round between 10.5 and 13.5 and then 17.5. That or might just be what was done at the beginning and nothing has changed since.

They used to make them and in fact, some older models can still be purchased. The real reason they went away is that the marketplace dictated them to be pointless - 10.5/13.5/17.5 are designations for spec classes, an 11.5/12.5 would be a mod and a very slow one at that. If you're running mod and you want "less motor", you're better off buying an 8.5/etc, turning down the punch on your ESC, the EPA on your throttle and working your way up to controlling it because then, once you do want "real mod" power, it's hard to make a slow motor fast but easy to make a fast motor slow before that point.

+1. And you can put a smaller pinion gear on the 10.5, that will calm it down some. Possibly even should, in general lower turn motors should be geared lower.

11.5 was actually a popular class somewhere in something years ago. I can't remember what. I think it was for pan cars in Japan or something.
